Welcome to Compassionate Funerals Queensland (CFQ). You likely didn’t choose to be reading this, but something has happened to force your hand. That may be that you need our services now, or you are simply planning ahead. We believe in taking time to get to know you and your family. We will guide you through what needs to be done; all the while respecting your individual faiths, traditions and beliefs. As our name suggests, compassion is at the core of what we do. We would really value the opportunity to live up to our name.
We are a family funeral home located in the North of Brisbane. We (Don & Karen Blue) have been Funeral Directors in NSW for a number of years before taking over the reins at Compassionate Funerals Queensland. Together with our daughter Maddie, it is our privilege to partner families and create occasions that appropriately honour and reflect your loved ones.
We choose to be involved in the funeral industry because we want to make a difference. We view what we do as a vocation; a way of life. We hail from New South Wales where we owned and operated two regional funeral homes, and our skills and expertise help and guide families to funeral services they can always remember – and no one can ever take those memories away. We all love what we do and are excited about the future and the service we can provide. We believe we are continually learning and that the changing face of the funeral industry will continue to allow families a much more active role in creating a memorable experience for their loved one. It is a privilege for us to assist.
Karen is primarily involved in meeting with our families to discuss both at-need funerals and those who wish to discuss planning for the future. She finds this role extremely rewarding and considers it a privilege to be able to walk alongside families in their time of need, helping to create memorable, bespoke services for their loved ones.
Don is well known for working behind the scenes tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly. He is also readily available at funeral services should you have any queries or issues. With a background in Engineering and Logistics, he often says it is his role to deliver on the promises that Karen has made.
Karen and Don’s daughter Maddie joined the industry in 2017, and it’s likely her friendly voice will greet you when you telephone us or call in. A qualified solicitor with extensive event coordination experience, she is a valuable addition to the team. Her youthfulness and energy keep us all on our toes.
The New Year of 2019 has brought a new face CFQ, with Toby Jenkins joining the team. Toby has extensive experience in the aged care and disability sector, and his compassion and respect for people make him a perfect fit. You will see Toby involved in all aspects of the funeral arrangements, including helping Don with some of those behind-the-scene requirements.
Thank you so much for taking such good care of our Mum, Maisie Davis. Karen you made a sad ordeal so manageable for our family. Always so compassionate, respectful and thoughtful towards us the family, as well as Mum. I highly recommend using Compassionate Funerals as they make you feel like you are dealing with friends who really care! Thanks again to you all. Your service was greatly appreciated!
Your professionalism and compassion was incredible and so appreciated at this difficult time. We were able to give my mum the farewell she deserved and a beautiful, personal and very moving service. So much thanks to Karen, who was so lovely and took so much time and care with us and our mother, who looked so beautiful and at peace.
The service, attention to detail and personal assistance provided by Karen, Don and Maddie could not have been better or more professional. They were very caring and compassionate and ensured all our wishes were met. Mum would have definitely approved and we would recommend them to anyone.
My sister and I wanted to create a wonderful funeral for our Mum that was fulfilling in every way. We planned well ahead, from the painting of Mum’s lifestory onto her coffin (which she loved) to the actual service itself at home in our garden. Well, it couldn’t have unfolded more beautifully or perfectly with thanks to Karen and Don. They were there for us on standby all the time with their constant support and understanding. They knew the vital importance of doing things in our own timing and helped us to fulfill all our wishes. And thankyou Karen for your loving, caring, meticulous preparation of Mum making our last vision of her – Beautiful!
You guided us through the week of ‘living hell ‘ as a friend, a mother & a professional. You listened, you organised, you made decisions when we were unable to, you kept us updated & gave us the details we so badly required, you held my hand & helped me walk through that door.
Karen and the team at compassionate funerals are amazing, the love and care that they showed during such a difficult time was outstanding ,Karen listened to what we all wanted and delivered the service beautifully, but the love and support didn’t stop once the service was finished, Karen has contacted my Mum a few times just for a chat to see how she’s going, I really appreciate everything Karen has done she goes above and beyond.
My family were very impressed by the professionalism, care and reasonable costs of my mother’s funeral. Karen and the team at Compassionate Funerals were easy to deal with and responsive to our wishes. I would recommend them to anyone else without reservation.
Karen and her team made our entire family feel supported and at ease during an emotional time, understood and appreciated our family dynamic, and encouraged us to plan the sort of funeral that was right for us and our Dad. It meant the world to us to be able to do that, and the day ended up being such a wonderful celebration of him. I’m not sure we would have had the freedom to do this with other providers. I can’t thank them enough for all their assistance, support and indeed follow up after the service, and would recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone who is looking for an exceptional, experienced, yet truly personal company to deal with.
Karen and her team from compassionate funerals ,Have created a business that enables you to find a positive out of what is usually a very negative time.
Karen has a very practical approach was easy to talk to making dealing with the funeral arrangements comforting rather than up setting.
She guided us through each step of organising my husbands funeral. She listened to our thoughts and interpreted them wonderfully by making all his children and his two special granddaughters apart of the service. enabling us to decide how to celebrate my husbands life and give him the kind of funeral he would of appreciated.
With Compassionate Funerals by our side my Mother’s every wish and more was fulfilled to create a most unique and memorable farewell service in her beloved home garden. Karen, Don and Maddie helped us carefully plan each detail of Mum’s day with sensitivity, respect and thoughtfulness. They combine genuine compassion with exceptional professionalism and helped our family immensely during our grief.
Your professionalism was of the highest degree. It was a difficult time for us, it meant so much to have you look after every detail. The service was perfect, the grandchildren loved being involved with their special readings and the balloons. The Terry family were so happy with the way everything went, it was a beautiful send off for our dearest Mum.
Karen and the team did a most excellent job with our families funeral service. I could not fault any aspect of the required steps and process we went through with them. We were kept well informed through a difficult time, and the final memorial service was of a high standard. Highly recommend this service.
When my father passed away recently we didn’t know where to start with arranging a funeral service. After phoning a few funeral homes, we were not 100% confident they were suitable. Then we phoned Compassionate Funerals at Brendale and upon speaking with Karen, immediately felt comfortable. The whole process from beginning to end was wonderful and professional. We would not hesitate recommending their family owned business to anyone. Thank you so much Karen and your family for everything.
We found Don, Karen and Maddie to be caring and attentive to our needs and also most professional in the way they were able to meet those needs during a difficult time. They went out of their way to ensure that everything happened as we wanted it to, went smoothly and with dignity. We are very grateful for their assistance and would recommend them to others without hesitation.
During the worst days of our lives, your kindness, support and professionalism made the onerous task of burying our beloved son Paul seem easy. We were never rushed, nothing was ever too much trouble, and you always spoke to us gently and with great kindness. You gave us options we hadn’t thought of. When we were losing faith that everything would be ready, you quietly reassured us it would be, and it was. Thank you seems so inadequate for what you have done for us.
Shortly after laying our beloved mother to rest, we all felt compelled to thank Compassionate Funerals, Karen,Don and Maddie for their exceptional authentic care and attention to detail. We were so grateful to have chosen Compassionate Funerals because in the week after our loss they listened and worked with our every request to eventually deliver a service we were all immensely proud of. Their genuine compassion, high standards and meticulous preparation gave us all a great sense of pride on the day.
We so appreciated your caring, sensitive guidance and thanks for accommodating all of our requests.
